During a visit to Gotse Delchev on Thursday for the 130th anniversary of the Nevrokop Diocese, Vice President Iliana Iotova expressed her hope that political parties would make more constructive statements on November 11 at the inaugural session of the 51st National Assembly, convened by President Rumen Radev.

When asked whether she thinks this National Assembly is legitimate, Iotova responded negatively. On whether the presidential institution might challenge the elections in the Constitutional Court amid requests from various parties, Iotova said she could not provide a definitive answer at this stage. "When President Rumen Radev decides, you will be informed," she added.

Iotova urged the new MPs to prioritize unity, public interest, education, and literacy over personal agendas and division.

In response to a question about the most pressing task for the new parliament, Iotova identified the importance of the State budget for the coming year. "Municipalities are waiting for it, as are Bulgarian citizens and the entire social sector," she noted, emphasizing that if representatives wish to at least somewhat meet public expectations, they must begin with the budget for the coming year.

She further pointed to the importance of laws tied to European funding, particularly under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, noting that Bulgaria ranks last in funds received. "This is yet another sad statistic for us, especially given the country’s socio-economic challenges," Iotova said.
