site.btaBSP Chairman: It Is Good that Glavchev Considered Public Attitudes and Proposed New Interior Minister

Commenting a draft caretaker cabinet proposed by Prime Minister-designate Dimitar Glavchev on Monday, Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) acting chairman Atanas Zafirov told journalists that it is good that Glavchev has taken into account the public attitudes and proposed a new interior minister. 

“It is good that Mr Glavchev will not be foreign minister, we expect from Mr Kondov, who is a career diplomat, a more active foreign policy, national responsibility and protection of national interests”, Zafirov said.

“We expect from the Prime Minister urgent consultations with the parties on the Bulgarian nominee for EU Commissioner. If we are invited to such consultations, we are ready to propose names. We believe that this is the first and most important task facing this cabinet, given the short deadlines, less than a week, and the real possibility for Bulgaria to get a good portfolio for a commissioner. This cannot happen without dialogue with the political forces”, the acting BSP chairman said.

Asked whether the new interior minister would be able to quell the tensions, Zafirov pointed out that the candidate, Atanas Ilkov, is a career man and a professional. “I hope he will quickly provide guarantees to calm the tensions in the system and in society and to ensure the transparency and fairness of the elections, which is ultimately the task of any caretaker government”, Zafirov added.
