Conferring within the framework of the 4th European Political Community Summit at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on Thursday, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic discussed Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen by land and the EU enlargement process.

Radev highlighted Bulgaria's actions to strengthen the protection of the EU's external borders, as well as the country’s fruitful cooperation with Türkiye. Bulgaria is actively working on dealing with the migratory pressure on Europe, as it is a matter of European citizens’ security, he noted.

Bulgaria's head of State also highlighted the responsibility of the EU member states in the region in promoting democratic values, respect for human rights and fulfilment of the Copenhagen criteria for EU membership in the Western Balkans, which are also of key importance for achieving progress in the European integration process. Radev was referring to Bulgaria's neighbours.
