A team of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) recently completed a primary mission by transporting a patient from an accident scene to the helipad of a medical facility, the Health Ministry's press service said Thursday.

The two previous successful missions involved hospital-to-hospital transfers.

The alert was received at HEMS Coordination HQ at 12.19 pm. Concurrently, Dr. Dinko Shtiliyanov and nurse Nina Minkova were conducting a training exercise at Zheleznitsa tunnel. Equipped for immediate response, their helicopter was swiftly redirected to Ihtiman following the accident report. The team reached the accident site at 12.34 pm.

The patient was a 37-year-old German national, who had sustained serious injuries during a parachute jump. He was airlifted to St. Ekaterina Hospital, where a team from the Sofia Emergency Services took over and transferred him to N.I. Pirogov hospital for further care.
