site.btaNPA Adopts Declaration in Support of Ukraine until Victory Is Achieved
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly adopted a declaration in Sofia Monday vowing support for Ukraine until victory is achieved. Sofia is hosting the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly. Participating in the forum that started May 25, are close to 400 parliamentarians of 32 member states and 25 partner countries and parliamentary organizations.
In the Ukraine declaration, delegates introduced an amendment to support Ukraine in its internationally justified right to defend itself by lifting certain restrictions on the use of NATO and partner-provided weapons and the ability to attack legitimate targets on Russian territory.
Parliamentarians from NATO member states approved the applications of Malta and Kosovo to become associate member delegations.
The Assembly also recommended the establishment of a Centre for Democratic Resilience at NATO Headquarters in Brussels to safeguard the Alliance's core democratic values by combating disinformation.
The declaration also urged the leaders to fully recognize the threat that autocracies pose to democratic systems and to put into action the Alliance’s engagement to defend shared values by establishing a Centre for Democratic Resilience at NATO headquarters.
