Relations between the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Bulgarian state and the Holy See date back centuries, President Rumen Radev said at the opening of an exhibition titled "Mount Athos in Drawings and Photographs" at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome on Wednesday. The head of State is on a two-day visit to the Vatican and Italy.
Radev said he was honoured to open the exhibition on the eve of the most sacred holiday for Bulgarians – May 24, the Day of Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and of Slavic Literature. "The day on which we bow before the ecclesiastical and diplomatic mission of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius and before their timeless spiritual heritage," Radev said.
The exhibition is proof that the relations between Christians are of mutual respect, of cooperation, of a common mission to build a world filled with faith, hope and common works for peace, spiritual uplift and prosperity, the President also said.
