Cab Drivers Protest Against Closed Taxi Ranks in Sofia

Taxi drivers are staging a protest organized by their national trade union demanding the restoration of all closed taxi ranks in Sofia, the union’s head Krasimir Tsvetkov said on Tuesday.

The protest has already started and will take the form of a motorcade circling Sofia Municipality area, Tsvetkov said. It is expected that the taxis will pass along Gurko Street, Vasil Levski Blvd., Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd., Moskovska Street, 15 November Street and Dunav Street.

On Wednesday taxi drivers will continue their protest actions at all 131 taxi stands in Sofia, the union's head said.

The motorcade will be accompanied and assisted by the Interior Ministry authorities with pilot police cars, the taxi trade union added.
