Sofia City Art Gallery will host a retrospective exhibition by artist Tekla Alexieva between December 3 and February 2. Titled Encyclopedia of the Unfathomable, the exhibition will be curated by Daniela Radeva and Lyuben Domozetsky, the organizers said.

"Tekla Alexieva will celebrate her 80th birthday in 2024, and Sofia City Art Gallery is the only museum institution that owns paintings by the artist, acquired in the 1980s. These two factors were the primary motivations for organizing a retrospective exhibition. The main idea of this project is to gather and showcase as many works as possible from the artist's diverse oeuvre spanning from the mid-1970s to the present," the gallery said.

"The exhibition aims to explore the many directions of her creative work, unified by her signature style and distinct visual language. Tekla Alexieva is one of the few artists to have worked extensively across various fields of visual art, making use of diverse media. She has worked across painting, mural painting, book illustration and design, printmaking, animation, stained glass, and tapestry," the gallery added. Perhaps the most interesting question in researching Tekla Alexieva is how the influence and authority of her images affect the sensibilities of different generations, the organizers noted.

Tekla Alexieva was born on November 2, 1944, in Sofia. She graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, specializing in Monumental and Decorative Painting. Since 1974, she has participated in numerous group art exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad, showcasing her distinctive style and affinity for urban themes.
