The Council of Ministers approved a draft Memorandum of Understanding between Bulgaria's Ministry of Energy and Italy's Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security for cooperation in the field of energy.

The two countries actively cooperate in the sector and are part of the Central and South-Eastern Europe Energy Connectivity initiative. Their joint work is focused on the accelerated integration of natural gas and electricity markets in Europe. Bulgaria and Italy are among the participants in the strategic infrastructure project Southern Gas Corridor, contributing to the diversification of natural gas supply sources and routes for European countries.

The purpose of the Memorandum is to define a framework for promoting partnership in the energy sector based on mutual benefit and the common interests of the two countries. They will exchange information on the efficient use of low carbon sources, renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, innovation, etc.
