A Bulgarian-Greek project will provide uninterrupted 5G coverage on the Orient/East-Med Corridor - including Struma Motorway in Bulgaria - which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network. The first phase of the project has been completed and was presented Wednesday in the presence of Bulgarian caretaker Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Dimitar Nedyalkov, said his Ministry.

The project is being implemented by an international consortium made up of A1 Bulgaria and Greece's COSMOTE and WINGS ICT Solutions. Half of the project funding comes from the digital strand of the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility. The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications is a coordinator of the programme and actively supports the applicants.

"Building 5G coverage along the highways connecting Bulgaria and Greece is important for mobility and improving digital services in the small municipalities along the Orient/East-Med Corridor," Nedyalkov said.

The objective of the 5G SEAGUL project is to support connected and automated mobility services along the Greece-Bulgaria border crossing area, which encompasses 450 km of highway on both countries’ territories, along with the Kulata-Promachonas border crossing.

Wednesday’s presentation was attended by Communications Regulation Commission Chair Ivan Dimitrov, representatives of the European Commission, and the project contractors.
