Caretaker Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov and US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt discussed the continuation of the strategic cooperation between Bulgaria and the United States in the field of energy, the Energy Ministry said in a press release on Friday.
Malinov and Pyatt met in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, where was held a summit of the Three Seas Initiative. "Thanks to the dialogue and the successful partnership between the two countries, the Bulgarian energy sector is achieving the goals of diversification and sustainable development in the long term," Malinov stressed. In his words, the two countries have made key progress on energy security, both in the natural gas and nuclear fields.
They discussed the implementation of the Vertical Corridor initiative of the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova. The development of the gas transmission infrastructure along this route is the key to energy security not only in south-eastern Europe but also for Ukraine and Moldova, the two officials agreed during their talks.
The press release said that Pyatt had expressed his satisfaction with the choice of a professional in the field of energy as caretaker minister, with whom he has worked previously. He also said he would look forward to deepening bilateral cooperation in all areas of the sector, including nuclear energy, hydrogen and natural gas.
Malinov stressed that the Energy Ministry will work together with its US partners to develop a competitive and transparent energy market in Bulgaria.
