Municipal councils in Bulgaria will stream live online their open sittings and the streams will be available on the website of the respective town or city hall, or the municipal council itself. Revisions to that effect were adopted conclusively in the Local Self-Government and Local Administration Act by Parliament on Wednesday.

Recordings of the live streams will be available on the same web pages.

The municipal council committees will also stream live their sittings.

The requirement for the  online streaming will take effect on July 1, 2024. All other revisions are due to become effective from February 1.

A majority of MPS rejected a proposed revision requiring that the decisions of municipal councils be made by a roll-call vote and that the individual vote be recorded in the minutes of the sitting.

The agenda for each upcoming city council meeting and its materials will be published on the website of the city council or the municipality in an open format allowing direct retrieval of text information and/or in a machine-readable open format. A public electronic register of councilors' questions to the mayor and the answers to them shall be created and maintained at the municipal council, the parliament adopted.
