Romania condemns the terrorist attacks against the Israeli State, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said after the Bulgaria-Greece-Romania trilateral meeting held on Monday at the Euxinograd residence near Varna.

At a joint press conference with his Bulgarian and Greek counterparts and representatives of the European Commission, the Romanian Prime Minister referred to the tragedy that has befallen the Israeli people in recent days and expressed his condolences for the victims. He announced that a Romanian citizen had died in the attacks in Israel launched since Saturday by the Palestinian Hamas movement.

Ciolacu said Israel must defend itself with all its power.

The Romanian Prime Minister recalled that Monday's meeting with his Bulgarian and Greek counterparts was the second in recent times, after the meeting in Athens in the summer, and expressed hope that the next trilateral meeting would be held in Romania.

Ciolacu also spoke about the need to build a new bridge over the Danube between the Bulgarian city of Ruse and Romania's Giurgiu and to expand the navigation capacity along the river.

Referring to Romania's and Bulgaria's desire to be accepted into the Schengen area, the Romanian Prime Minister said it was a right of the two countries, which should "no longer be kept in the corner unjustly".

In the context of interconnectivity, the energy market, supply and ensuring complete independence from fossil fuels from Russia, the Romanian Prime Minister said that this is an issue on which "Romania has the moral duty to help Moldova".

After Ukraine, Moldova is the most vulnerable European country, Ciolacu said, adding that at the trilateral meeting on Monday the prime ministers were united on the issue of support for Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia.

The meeting also looked at security in the region and the strategic importance of the Black Sea in terms of Euro-Atlantic security. Ciolacu reminded of Russia's attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the border with Romania. “I believe that we need to continuously invest and find a common strategy within NATO so that we can avoid similar attacks in the future,” Ciolacu said.

This is Marcel Ciolacu’s second meeting with his Bulgarian and Greek counterparts recently, after the meeting in Athens in the summer, and he expressed hope that the next trilateral meeting will be held in Romania.
