European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean highlighted the need for cooperation to improve infrastructure in the region during a trilateral meeting between the prime ministers of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania held in the Euxinograd on Monday. “Transport is the backbone of any economy,” she stressed.
"We are here to help the whole region develop such infrastructure. The European Union has the opportunity to do so," the EU Commissioner noted.
She underlined that a corridor should be developed linking the Baltic, Black and Aegean seas. Development of infrastructure deepens cooperation in the region, Valean pointed out. The Commissioner added that the capitals of the three countries - Athens, Sofia and Bucharest - should also be connected by a high-speed railway.
Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov hosted the meeting, which was attended by his counterparts from Greece and Romania - Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Marcel Ciolacu. The forum was also attended by European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas, as well as Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov.
