Seven illegal migrants were detained after a 15-km car chase in Petrohan Pass on Saturday, the Montana Regional Directorate of Interior reported Sunday.

Around 1:30 am in the village of Burziya, a police patrol saw a car driving at a high speed and attempted to stop it. The driver increased the speed and headed up Petrohan Pass. A chase followed, and some 15 km later the driver turned onto a dirt road into the forest. He abandoned the car and managed to escape.

In the car, the police found seven foreigners without identification documents who said they were from Syria. There were detained for 24 hours and will then be sent to an accommodation centre for foreigners.

This is the third group of migrants detained in Montana Region in 2023.
