The Council of Ministers adopted Wednesday the 2022 Road Safety Status Report and the Implementation of the National Road Safety Strategy in Bulgaria 2021-2030 and annexes to it. 

The report presents the state of road safety for 2022, summarising: the global, European, and national context of the operational environment; the trends in the road traffic situation in the country; the progress in the implementation of the National Strategy for Road Safety 2021-2030; the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints; the findings and conclusions; and the upcoming actions that condition and define the specific outcomes of this policy.

The total number of road traffic accidents in the country in 2022 (with injuries and material damage) is 67,683 - 24.4% less than in 2019 (89,549). A 15.4% decrease in fatalities and a 1.8% decrease in serious injuries were also recorded. There were 6,609 accidents with injured persons, a significant decrease from the 2011-2020 decade average of 6,727. Fatal accidents in 2022 numbered 460, with 50 of these resulting in more than one casualty. Of the total number of accidents, 8,422 persons were injured, 1, 766 of them with severe injuries. The number of fatalities was 531.
