Currently, there are no active wildfires on the territory of Bulgaria, the Interior Ministry said in a press release. Earlier in July, a number of wildfires burned tens of thousands of hectares of forests, agricultural land, grasses and bushy areas. An analysis of the Interior Ministry reports that the number of fires in the country has increased by more than 10%, year-on-year.

Hundreds of firefighters, gendarmes, police and forest officers, servicemen and volunteers were involved in extinguishing recent wildfires. Following the activation of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, teams from Spain and Czechia joined in extinguishing the forest fires in Bulgaria. Turkish firefighters also came to the rescue.

There is no risk of spread of the forest fire on Greek territory near the Bulgarian-Greek border. On the Bulgarian side, teams and equipment have been deployed in order to react quickly if there is any change in the situation. The aerial firefighting on Greek territory is continuing.

Over 100 wildfires have been extinguished in Bulgaria in the last 24 hours, the Fire Safety and Population Protection General Directorate said on its website.
