Bulgaria and Switzerland have a strong cooperation in the field of science and innovation, which has a positive impact in other sectors, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said at a meeting with Swiss Ambassador to Bulgaria Raymund Furrer, the Council of Ministers said Tuesday on Facebook.

Denkov pointed as a key example of a successful joint project the activities of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT), through which Bulgaria joined the most elite European network for the development of artificial intelligence ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems).

Denkov noted that the Swiss-Bulgarian Research Programme Agreement signed in August 2023 will further accelerate the partnership and build on the results achieved so far in the field of technology and innovation.

At the end of 2022, a Framework Agreement was signed between the Government of Bulgaria and the Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation on the implementation of the Second Swiss contribution to selected EU Member States to reduce economic and social disparities in the EU. The Framework Agreement enables the implementation of a Swiss-Bulgarian cooperation programme, through which Bulgaria will receive financial assistance of CHF 92.5 million for the period until December 3, 2029 in several areas.
