Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov Friday denied the claims of his predecessor Ivan Demerdzhiev of a purge being carried out in the Interior Ministry's system. The Interior Minister has the power to select the team of employees he wishes to work with, Stoyanov told journalists in Plovdiv. He denied that the heads of the regional directorates of interior are being replaced for political reasons.

"Nothing is being prepared for the elections, this is about choosing my team," Stoyanov also said. Moving directorate heads to the unit for supporting the Interior Minister is not a promotion, he underscored. "I am simply not happy with their work and I think there are other employees who will do better than them," he added.

The police in Blagoevgrad Region will be headed by Daniel Dimitrov, who used to head the territorial unit of the Chief Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (CDCOC) in Kyustendil.

Daniel Loukov, who is currently the head of unit at CDCOC, will become director of the Pazardzhik Regional Directorate of Interior.

The changes are explained with the effective implementation of the priorities in the Interior Ministry's work on road safety, countering crime in small settlements, drug trafficking and distribution, migration pressure. The changes are also based on an analysis of the directorates' results thus far.
