Until August 31, the movement of heavy-duty trucks over 20 tonnes between 1 pm and 9 pm will be restricted, if the temperature rises above 35, on certain sections of the road network in the regions of Targovishte and Shumen, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) said on Monday.

The temporary measures are necessary to minimize the risks of deformations of the road surface. The ban does not apply to heavy goods vehicles transporting perishable food, temperature controlled cargo, live animals and dangerous cargo.

During the restriction, vehicles over 20 tonnes will wait outside the roadway in appropriate places, without hindering traffic, RIA added.

The directors of road administrations will monitor the weather forecasts and in high temperatures, depending on the condition of the pavements, they will take actions to limit the movement of motor vehicles over 20 tonnes on certain road sections in the specific area.

On July 21, RIA warned that until the end of July, restrictions on trucks up to 20 tonnes, in high temperatures, will also be imposed in the Kardzhali region.
