site.btaBulgarian, Romanian Business Representatives Meet in Bucharest

Business representatives of Bulgaria and Romania met at the Bulgarian embassy in Bucharest on Wednesday. The meeting was organized by this country’s diplomatic mission in the Romanian capital and the Bulgaria-Romania Bilateral Chamber of Commerce.

"The Bulgarian embassy has been a meeting point for Bulgarian and Romanian businesses over the last two and a half years," the head of the Bulgarian embassy’s Economic and Commercial Office, Ivaylo Marinov, said at the event’s opening.

Bulgarian Ambassador to Romania Radko Vlaykov noted that in the past two years they have organized similar events to connect Bulgarian business representatives with potential partners from Romania directly.

"Romania remains Bulgaria's second largest foreign trade partner. Bulgaria ranks fourth among Romania's foreign partners," the diplomat said.

He added that despite the challenging situation, connectivity between the two countries, particularly along the Danube, has been improving.

"Businesses from Bulgaria and Romania are taking full advantage of opportunities to communicate and work together," Vlaykov said, praising the business representatives for managing "to overcome all challenges". "You have the full support of the political leadership in both countries," the Ambassador added.

The President of the Bulgaria-Romania Bilateral Chamber of Commerce, Doru Dragomir, said that this was the first time the  Chamber had organized such an event at the embassy and expressed hope that it would become a tradition.

"We aim to bring together people from various industries, with different interests, but who share a common goal at the end of the day, that is to work within the Bulgarian-Romanian region. It would be hard for either Bulgarians or Romanians alone to fully unlock the potential of both countries. It is much easier when we work together. When I first stepped foot in the Bulgarian Parliament, I saw a sign on a wall there reading ‘We are stronger together’, a motto I use whenever I have the chance to discuss Bulgaria and Romania", Doru Dragomir said.

Wednesday's event was attended by Deputy Regional Governor of Ruse Georgi Georgiev, Executive Director of Euroregion Danubius Association Lily Gancheva, and Adrian Sipos of the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce, among others.
