The hotspots in the area of the wildfire near the Bulgarian-Greek border are still smouldering, said Plamen Poyukov, head of the Katuntsi State Forestry Enterprise. The Greek side is trying to put out the fire, deploying planes and helicopters, but the issue has not yet been resolved, he added.
Poyukov noted that as temperatures rise, the smouldering hotspots are flaring up again. The situation on Bulgarian territory is currently under control, he said.
Forestry officials, firefighters, and servicepersons have been on the ground for seven days now. Standby duties will continue to be performed, the head of the Katuntsi State Forestry Enterprise said.
