site.btaDeputy Chief of Defence: Bulgaria Firmly Committed to Stability, Security in Black Sea Region
The Bulgarian Deputy Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Tsanko Stoykov, attends the international conference "Black Sea Defence and Aerospace "(BSDA), taking place in Bucharest from May 21 to 24, the Ministry of Defence said. Addressing the forum on Wednesday, he said that in today's dynamic and rapidly changing security environment, Bulgaria stands firmly behind its commitment to contribute to stability and security in the region by adapting and modernising its armed forces to effectively counter threats to NATO's eastern flank.
In his report, Lt Gen Stoykov focused on the main risks and threats to the Black Sea region. He put an emphasis on the activities that Bulgaria, both independently and together with its allies, is conducting in response to strengthening security in a regional and global context.
During the conference, the Deputy Chief of Defence held brief working meetings with his counterparts from NATO and EU Member States and partner countries.
This year's conference is jointly organised by Romania's Ministry of National Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among the main topics on the agenda are: defence, cybersecurity, counterterrorism, public order and administration of justice, crisis management, fire safety, countering drug trafficking, border protection, and countering transborder organised crime.
During the forum, an exhibition is traditionally organised where leading companies present the latest defence products and technologies. This year, political and military leaders from more than 30 countries participated. The exhibition was visited by more than 30,000 people who had the opportunity to see the latest achievements of the defence industry presented by more than 500 manufacturers from around the world, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry said.
