The capital of Albania, Tirana, on Monday welcomes the leaders of the Western Balkans and key European Union leaders such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The meeting will be attended by heads of state and government from the six Western Balkan countries - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania - and officials from the European Union, a number of EU member states and representatives of various international institutions.

Among the participants are the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, leaders from Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, as well as senior representatives of the Central European Free Trade Agreement, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Regional Cooperation Council, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank.

Bulgaria will be represented by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, the press service of the Council of Ministers said.

Topics to be discussed at the meeting include the integration of the region into the single market and improving convergence with the EU, as well as support for the green and digital transition in the Western Balkan countries. The meeting is expected to adopt joint declarations on trade and transport facilitation, environmental protection and climate partnership between Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania.
