The last stop of Vice President Iliana Iotova's visit to the Republic of Albania was the city of Elbasan.

The Vice President attended the opening of the school year at the Bulgarian Sunday School Zora  to the Bulgarians in Albania Association in the city. There, she spoke in Bulgarian with the director of the school, with the teachers, most of whom studied in Bulgaria, with doctoral students in Bulgarian universities, as well as with the children at the school. 

Immediately after the opening of the school year, Iotova held a meeting with the representatives of the Bulgarian community in Elbasan.

She thanked the Bulgarians in Albania Association and its Chair Ahmet Bala for the invitation to visit the Republic of Albania.

On his part, Bala thanked Iotova for visiting Elbasan, where there is a large Bulgarian community, for her  presence at the opening of the school year, and thanked the Albanian state for recognizing the Bulgarian minority.

The chairman of the association of Bulgarians from Berat was also present at the meeting, and stressed the urgent need for the establishment of a common structure, a committee of the Bulgarian minority, which would coordinate all representatives of the Bulgarian community in Albania. At the moment there are 10-15 different associations in the country which funtion separately. 

Iotova promised that the city of Berat will be her next stop in Albania and that she will talk with the Bulgarian diaspora institutions regarding this issue, stressing that it is very important for the Bulgarians in Albania to have unity.

Later on Saturday, the Vice President held a meeting with Elbasan regional governor, who is a historian by profession. Opportunities for cooperation between Bulgaria and Elbasan in Albania in the field of education, science and culture were discussed at the meeting. Iotova mentioned the idea of offering studies in Bulgarian language at the University of Elbasan, as it is studied in Tirana.
