A photo exhibition and an art exhibition, titled "Together on One bridge" started the Turkiye Month initiative in Kardzhali, Southern Bulgaria. The presented works were created by graduates from the Municipal Children's Complex - Kardzhali and students from Edirne.

The event was opened by Kardzhali Mayor Hasan Azis, and the Vice Consul at the Consulate of Turkiye in Plovdiv. The Kardzhali Mayor stressed that the dedication of a month to a certain country is a natural extension of the Rhodope municipality's long-established practice of introducing its residents to the culture and traditions of another country. He recalled the America Month initiative, which has been held in the Municipality for more than a decade, as well as that of Spain, whose first edition was in May, and other related events.

"All these initiatives are the result of the efforts of the Municipality of Kardzhali to build bridges. Bridges of friendship, of getting to know each other, of tolerance, of cultural identities in the Balkans and in Europe", said Azis.

The month of Turkiye in Kardzhali is on the occasion of 100 years since the founding of the Republic of Turkiye.  The organizers are the Municipality of Kardzhali and the Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye in Bulgaria.

The one-month programme includes cultural, religious and creative events, with the participation of the Municipality of Kardzhaly and its sister municipalities of Edirne, Corlu, Manisa, as well as business meetings with businesses from the Thracian part of Turkiye and Kardzhali. The last ten days of the initiative will be dedicated to Turkish cinema. The films, provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye in Bulgaria and the Consulate General in Plovdiv, will be screened in the new Arena cinema.

Among those present at the opening were the Chairman of the Municipal Council Yussain Ahmed, the Deputy Mayor Tundzhay Shyukryu the Chairman of the Movement of Rights and Freedoms Advisory Group in the Municipal Council Lyatif Rasim, the Parish Priest Father Peter Garena and the District Mufti Basri Eminefendi.
