Portrait and Valuable Items in Vienna Auction


Sofia, January 29 (BTA) - Bulgarian Minister of Culture Boil Banov acquired on behalf of the Bulgarian State a portrait and valuable items belonging to former Bulgarian ruler Knyaz Alexander Battenberg (1879-1886) at an auction in Vienna, the Ministry of Culture said.

The objects in question include Battenberg's most famous original portrait with royal insignia by the artist Karl Dillitz and three trays gifted to him by residents of the Bulgarian towns of Ruse, Lovech and Berkovitza on the occasion of the early years of his rule.

2019 marks 140 years since Alexander Battenberg was elected by the Grand National Assembly as the Knyaz of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Culture recalled. LY/DT
