Sofia, January 29 (BTA) - In 2019, the Education Ministry will be implementing 17 national programmes worth 76 million leva, Deputy Education Minister Tanya Mihailova told a news conference on Tuesday. Four of the programmes are new and existing programmes have been expanded with new modules. Mihailova said that the programmes will be published for public consultation.

A programme for streamlining staff structure in pre-school and school establishments will get the highest allocation of 36 million leva.

Another scheme which provides free Internet access at schools will receive 11 million leva.

The Ministry has allocated nearly 7.4 million leva to promote modern learning environment. Schools can have classes at museums, galleries, and theatres and students will be able to visit various stage productions.

Some 3.2 million leva will be allocated to fund school contests and competitions.

Nataliya Mihalevska of the Education Ministry said that there are 290 schools in the country which have been designated as innovative. The Ministry will spend 1,572,600 leva to build networks between innovative schools.

Also a scheme will make available 1.5 million leva to promote the learning of Bulgarian as a mother tongue abroad.

Municipalities will receive one million leva for educational desegregation. LI/PP
