Most Bulgarians Support
President's Critical Position
on New Fighter Jets - Poll

Sofia, January 30 (BTA) - Fifty-nine per cent of Bulgarians support the critical position of President Rumen Radev on the procedure for the acquisition of new fighter jets for the Bulgarian Air Force, while the rest are unsure, according to an opinion poll on various topics presented by Gallup International on Wednesday.

This was a telephone survey conducted among 800 adult Bulgarians between January 24 and 26 independently of foreign funding.

Seventy per cent of respondents approve of the actions of Deputy Prime Minister Krassimir Karakachanov in Voyvodinovo, 25 per cent disapprove and the rest are unsure. Society's sensitivity to the issue with ghettos is clearly high, but this does not mean that Bulgarians support spontaneous actions: 85 per cent think that a strategy for solving this problem is needed, the pollsters comment.

In early January, Karakachanov ordered the demolition of illegal Roma houses in the southern village of Voyvodinovo after two young Roma assaulted a Special Forces corporal there.

On the topic of Bulgarian road hauliers and the EU Mobility Package 1, the survey's results show that the matter has become non-partisan and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has gained points with his attempt to achieve concessions and postponement of the new road haulage regulations in favour of Bulgarian business, Gallup said.
