site.btaPolice Officers Bust High Tech Drug Greenhouse in Novi Iskar

Officers of the Sofia Fifth Police District launched a special operation to counter drug-related crimes on Tuesday. They checked on a private property in Novi Iskar (near Sofia) and there they came across three premises equipped with built and working systems for controlling the temperature, lighting and humidity of the air - adapted for the cultivation of drug crops, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday.

The police detained a 50-year-old criminal with records of drug distribution and production, and during the search seized 270 plants 90-130 cm tall, 5 kg of dried marijuana, distributed in two paper and 10 vacuum bags, as well as ventilation, heating units, electronic scales, containers and preparations. Procedural and investigative actions also followed at an address in the capital occupied by the detainee, where cash amounts in various currencies (USD 1,500, BGN 3,500, EUR 5,000 and TL 300) were found, as well as numerous preparations and seeds of various varieties.

The materials collected in the pre-trial proceedings have been reported to the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office and the arrestee was charged.
