Parliament Opens Procedure for Election of Members of Special Intelligence Devices Control Bureau

Parliament opened a procedure for the election of members, including the Chair and Vice-Chair, of the National Special Intelligence Devices Control Bureau. The rules of procedure were adopted here on Wednesday by 104 votes to 64, with 11 abstentions.

The term of office of the members of the current National Bureau expired in 2023. The National Bureau consists of five members, including a Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson, who are elected by Parliament for a five-year term.

The candidate with more than half of the votes of the Members of the National Assembly present shall be deemed elected. If several candidates have received more than half of the votes, the candidate with the highest number of votes in favour shall be elected. If none of the candidates obtains the required votes, the National Assembly shall adopt a decision to open a new election procedure.
