Boyko Rashkov from Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) group did not gather enough support in Parliament to be elected Chairperson of the Committee for Control of the Security Services, the Application and use of the Special Intelligence Means and the Data Access under the Electronic Communications Act.

He was nominated by CC-DB Floor Leader Nikolay Denkov and by MP Nadezhda Yordanova. The nomination was supported by 37 MPs (CC-DB), three from BSP for Bulgaria, one from There Is Such a People (TISP) and one independent.

Against were 132 MPs - from GERB - UDF, Vazrazhdane, Movement for Rights and Freedoms, TISP (12 people) and three independent MPs.

Seven MPs abstained - four independents, one from TISP and two from GERB-UDF.

The former interior minister was to replace the incumbent chairman Daniel Mitov from the GERB-UDF group.

Nadezhda Yordanova, one of the sponsors of Rashkov's nomination, explained that this committee is specific, its chairs are rotating and this is the reason for the proposal Rashkov to lead it during the current parliamentary session.
