A fire broke out in the Kresna Gorge between the Peyo Yavorov railway station and the first tunnel towards Blagoevgrad, the Mayor of the southwestern town of Kresna, Nikolay Georgiev, wrote in a Facebook post Friday. The fire brigade and the police are calling for help only from well-equipped volunteers, the post further states.

The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Blagoevgrad said that dry grasses near the railway line were burning. There is no risk for buildings and people at the moment. Fire brigade teams have been dispatched.

Traffic along the Kresna Gorge and near Blagoevgrad is restricted to one lane and regulated by traffic police.

Three large fires are still raging in the Region of Blagoevgrad - in Pirin mountain above the village of Senokos, in the Maleshevo mountain in Strumyano Municipality and along the Bulgarian-Greek border in Slavyanka mountain.

Motorists and passengers are advised not to throw out their cigarette butts.
