The members of Turkiye's 4th National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition returned to their home country, the Anadolu Agency reported. The expedition was led by Prof. Dr. Ersan Basar, head of Turkiye's 8th National Antarctic Expedition.

The Turkish Arctic Expedition was organized through the coordination of TUBITAK MAM Polar Research Institute.

The scientists returned to Turkiye after completing 16 projects. They took test samples from 51 locations. They explored glaciers and other ice formations affected by climate change, and studied habitats of Arctic organisms.

Prof. Basar told the Turkish news website ekonomim.haber7 on Sunday that the test samples taken by the expedition were partly related to water pollution. He said the scientists worked under severe weather conditions. A change of course was made on the 10th day of the journey due to strong wind.

Prof. Dr. Ersan Basar teaches at Karadeniz Technical University's Department of Maritime Transport and Management Engineering.
