In the framework of the coordination procedure for the appointment of new Bulgarian ambassadors in October 2023, the presidential institution received a number of proposals motivated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, President Radev’s press office said in a release Wednesday. Among them is a proposal for the appointment of another candidate as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Ukraine, and the head of State has respected the Foreign Minister's motives. The announcement was in response to the questions sent and to speculations that the head of State was the reason why no Bulgarian ambassador would be appointed to Ukraine due to the president's refusal to appoint Nikolay Nenchev to the post in the summer of 2023, the release said.

The established practice provides for a decision of the Council of Ministers to be adopted after the completion of the coordination procedure. These decisions are sent to the presidential administration, which is the basis for issuing a decree by the head of State. As of July 24, no decision of the Council of Ministers on the appointment of an ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Bulgaria to Ukraine has been submitted to the presidential institution, the statement said. An answer to the question why the procedure for the appointment of the candidate proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not been completed should be sought there, the presidential press secretariat said.
