1877: Russian troops liberate Stara Zagora from Ottoman rule during the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish War.
1949: A Polish reading room (renamed Cultural and Information Centre in 1957, and Polish Institute in 1994) opens in Sofia.
2017: Boyan Petrov climbs Gasherbrum II (8,035 m) in Pakistan, becoming the first Bulgarian to have scaled nine eight-thousanders. Petrov is last seen on May 3, 2018, while attempting to climb Shishapangma (8,027 m).
