site.btaEnergy Minister: Investments in Secure Equipment Will Contribute to Sustainable Energy Development

Caretaker Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov Wednesday told a meeting on opportunities and prospects for sustainable development of power generation technology that investment in secure equipment will contribute to the sustainable development of the Bulgarian energy sector. 

The meeting was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce, Solar Turbines and Glavbolgarstroy. Among the participants in the meeting was US Ambassador to Bulgaria Kenneth Merten, the Energy Ministry said Wednesday. 

Malinov highlighted the successful ten-year cooperation of the Bulgarian side with the leading manufacturer of energy equipment - the American company Solar Turbines. "After the large-scale project for the modernization of compressor stations and the construction of two new ones, a total of 17 state-of-the-art low-emission gas turbine compressor units manufactured by the company are operating in Bulgaria. They meet the highest operational and environmental standards," he pointed out. "Within the framework of the Chiren underground gas storage expansion project, four more compressors of Solar Turbines will be installed at the facility site, which will achieve the necessary technical parameters to double the storage capacity," he added.

"Bulgaria is already facing a number of challenges in balancing energy produced from renewable sources. In this regard, we should invest in balancing capacities that will provide a sustainable solution," Malinov said. He expressed confidence that Solar Turbines' expertise in the production of gas turbines for electricity generation will contribute to achieving Bulgaria's energy transition goals.
