Joint police teams from Silistra and the neighbouring Romanian town of Calarasi will regulate traffic during the Easter holidays, said the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry on Monday. The measure will be introduced because of the expected increase in traffic of Romanian cars to the Bulgarian resorts on the Black Sea, as well as those transiting to Greece.

At working meetings it was decided that the joint activity will be carried out on April 30, May 1 and May 6 at all border control checkpoints on the border with Romania.

The Bulgarian-Romanian traffic safety patrols in the region are typical of the summer months. The work of the teams is mainly aimed at compliance with speed regimes, improper overtaking and alcohol use. According to data from the Regional Directorate in Silistra, the most frequent violations encountered by patrols are speeding and improper overtaking. The Romanian officers provide assistance especially in cases involving Romanian citizens.
