A team from the Faculty of Law of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) won a Spirit of the Jessup Award at the National Rounds of the Jessup, the world's largest and oldest moot court competition, UNWE said on Friday. Nikolay Boshnakov, Boyana Ivanova and Evgenia Licheva, Year 4 and 5 students of the Faculty of Law, presented the award to the UNWE Rector, Prof Dimitar Dimitrov.

Boshnakov talked about the training and the four rounds of the competition. He thanked the team's international coaches, Mara Smith from the US and Juan Pablo Rodriguez from Colombia. The student said the world's most prestigious universities compete in the Jessup.

The Spirit of the Jessup Award was created in 1996 to recognize the team that best exemplifies the Jessup spirit of camaraderie and academic excellence.

The Rector said: "It is important for us that we have students like you, who want to do more than what is required in the learning process. We are very pleased that you won worldwide recognition for your efforts."

The competition is named after Philip C. Jessup, a 20th-century American diplomat, scholar and jurist notable for his accomplishments in the field of international law. Teams of law students compete against one another through the presentation of oral and written pleadings to address issues of public international law in the context of a hypothetical legal dispute between nations.
