Commenting on a Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) motion for an urgent hearing in Parliament in connection with his statements during his visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov told reporters on Tuesday that the question of sending troops to the country had not been raised at all. "I want to say very firmly that in no way has anyone raised the issue of sending troops to Ukraine," Denkov said. He took part in the 37th General Assembly of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria.
"President Zelenskyy has not raised this issue at all. Even if someone had brought it up, I would have said what I always say: Bulgarian troops will not be going there," the prime minister added.
Asked whether he would make the same statement in Parliament after BSP insisted on an urgent hearing on Tuesday, Denkov gave an affirmative answer. "There is no change of stance," he noted.
Denkov said that what had been discussed and is still being discussed with Ukraine is military-technical assistance.
Asked to comment on a Der Spiegel article that claimed that Bulgarian shells will be part of the aid that Germany will send to Ukraine, Denkov said: "Bulgaria produces shells, which are being exported. As far as I know, we haven’t had direct exports to Ukraine, but it is clear that some of these shells go to Ukraine. There is no news here," he added.
