site.btaDefence Ministry Holds Meeting within Strategic Review of Defence Policy

The Ministry of Defence Tuesday held a meeting at the Lozenetz Residence as part of a Strategic Review of the Defence Policy. The meeting put a special focus on people in defence, the Ministry’s press center said. 

The Strategic Review of the Defence Policy of Bulgaria is conducted under the leadership of Defence Minister Todor Tagarev in accordance with a Council of Ministers’ decision. The aim is to adapt the defence policy so that the Armed Forces’ defence capabilities could be developed in the most effective way.

Tuesday’s meeting focused on the military profession, recruitment, motivation and development of military personnel. Defence personnel was identified as the main priority and the most important factor for the successful development of the Armed Forces and their defence capabilities. The need for well-prepared, psychologically resilient and motivated professionals with high morale and fighting spirit was also highlighted. 

The decision to conduct a Strategic Defence Review was taken at a Council of Ministers’ meeting on September 29. The review is prompted by major changes in the security environment and in NATO and European Union’s defence documents.
