The President of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation (BWF) Arif Majed held a series of meetings during the World Weightlifting Federation Congress in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. "The most important news for us from the congress is that Bulgaria has the opportunity to take Turkey's right to host the European Weightlifting Championships for men and women in February, which is an Olympic qualification in an Olympic year. This is an extraordinary chance, privilege, and recognition for our federation," Majed said.

On October 9, the President of the European Weightlifting Federation Antonio Conflitti and the Secretary General of the Federation - Milan Mihailov, will arrive in Bulgaria to discuss the possible organization of the tournamenet with the Bulgarian Youth and Sports Minister.

This would be the first Olympic weightlifting qualification in history to be held in Bulgaria. If an agreement is reached for Bulgaria to take over the organization of the European Championships in 2024, a working group and a professional team should be set up to deal with the overall preparation of the event.

In Riyadh, Majid also met with the President of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation, Mohammed Al-Harbi, who is also the President of the Organizing Committee of the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships. They discussed closer cooperation between the two federations, which are on close friendly terms.
