Sports Minister, European Weightlifting Federation President Discuss Bulgaria's Hosting of 2024 European Weightlifting Championships

Bulgarian Youth and Sports Minister Dimitar Iliev Monday discussed this country’s hosting of the European Weightlifting Championships in 2024 with European Weightlifting Federation President Antonio Conflitti. Bulgaria last hosted the forum in 2005. Some 40 countries from all over Europe will participate in the Championships, which is an Olympic qualification event.

The meeting was also attended by European Weightlifting Federation Secretary General Milan Mihajlović, Romanian Weightlifting Federation President Alexandru Padure, Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation President Arif Majed, the head coach of Bulgaria’s national weightlifting team, Ivan Ivanov, and Marin Milashki, a member of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation’s governing body.

Conflitti said that he personally got familiar with the conditions in Arena Sofia, where the Championships will take place.

Iliev said that his Ministry will provide support for the upcoming Championships in Bulgaria. According to him, such large forums contribute to the development and promotion of sports among the youth and encourages talents to continue working towards ambitious goals.
