At a brief ceremony, held at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Mexico on August 7, the Mexican side formally gave its consent to Luis Carlos Urzua Castillo to perform the functions of Honorary Consul of Bulgaria, the Embassy said on its website here on Friday. The consul is seated in the municipality of San Pedro Garza Garcia, with his consular district being in the State of Nuevo Leon, United Mexican States.

Located close to the US border, the state of Nuevo Leon has been crucial to Mexico's economic and industrial development. It ranks second only to the capital in terms of contribution to the country's GDP and is one of the leading Mexican states in terms of growth in foreign direct investment, the embassy’s statement reads.

Luis Carlos Urzua Castillo has expressed his gratitude to the Bulgarian side for the vote of confidence in him and has declared that he accepts with great responsibility to serve as Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in the State of Nuevo Leon. He has declared his readiness to assist and support the Embassy in the development of bilateral relations in areas of interest to both countries and the business community, as well as to cooperate with representatives of the Bulgarian community in the state.
