North Macedonia: Republic Day.

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1887: In the 3rd Grand National Assembly, Prince Ferdinand I takes an oath of allegiance to the Constitution of the Principality of Bulgaria (a.k.a. the Tarnovo Constitution, Bulgaria's first constitution).

1891: The Bulgarian Social Democratic Party (BSDP) holds its founding congress in Mount Buzludzha (old style date: July 20, 1891). The BSDP is the forerunner of the Bulgarian Communist Party which ruled between 1944 and 1989 and of today's Bulgarian Socialist Party.

1903: The Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising breaks out (old style date: July 20, 1903). The uprising is aimed to liberate the Bulgarian population of Macedonia and Eastern Thrace which remained within the borders of the Ottoman Empire after Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman rule in 1878.

1974: Diplomatic relations established with Venezuela.

1988: A Yak-40 airliner of the Bulgarian flagcarrier Balkan Airlines crashes into the Iskar River shortly after taking off from Sofia for a flight to the Black Sea city of Varna. Twenty-seven passengers are killed in the accident and 10 are injured.

2006: Diplomatic relations established with Montenegro at embassy level.
