BTA and the international ballet association "Sara-Nora Prima" signed on Friday a partnership agreement. The occasion is the forthcoming international ballet competition "Sara-Nora Prima" on the stage of the Burgas Opera from July 4 to 9, with the accompanying ballet academy starting at the beginning of next month, said BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.

He revisited some of the notable moments in the 95-year-old ballet tradition in Bulgaria: in 1928 the first ballet performance was on the stage of the Sofia Opera - Leo Delibes' ballet "Coppelia", and the first Bulgarian ballet was in 1937 - "The Dragon and Yana" by Hristo Manolov.

Valchev also talked about the history of ballet competitions in Bulgaria, including the Varna competition, the first edition of which was in 1964, adding that such events are few and far apart today, making the contest in Burgas the most regular one. He added that its organiser is the youngest director in the history of the national ballet for 13 years, Sara Nora Krasteva, who has also been prima of the National Ballet since 2003.
