Sofia, July 16 (BTA) - Caretaker Justice Minister Yanaki Stoilov
on Friday, convened a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council
(SJC) because of a signal against Prosecutor General Ivan
Geshev. Stoilov explained to journalists that two days ago he
received information from caretaker Minister of Interior Boyko
Rashkov about violations committed by Geshev.

The signal contained information about the actions and inactions
of the Prosecutor General, which undermined the judiciary, so
Stoilov proposed to the SJC to initiate proceedings to release
Geshev from his position.

Stoilov added at the briefing that he had summarized the
information in several groups of reasons, and that he will
present them at the SJC meeting on July 22. The information from
Boyko Rashkov exceeds 100 pages, the Minister of Justice
explained, and said that it concerns the disclosure of data
collected through special surveillance means and violation the
magistrate code of ethics.

The Prosecutor General's spokesperson Siika Mileva spoke to BTA
about Yanaki Stoilov's proposal and noted that  the prosecution
magistracy was not surprised that the caretaker Minister of
Justice, fulfilling the will of caretaker Interior Minister
Rashkov, submitted such a proposal to the SJC.

"What we are surprised about is why Stoilov is sending in a
signal against Geshev only now - days before the term of the
caretaker government expires," commented Mileva , describing the
situation as "a political act aimed only at political dividends
 and PR."

According to her, the proposal contains only political but no
legal arguments, and it is without any specifics. NV/DT
