site.btaUPDATED GERB-UDF Registers for Oct. 27 Elections, Says It Is Only Party Capable of Forming Majority, Government
Тhе GERB-UDF coalition Wednesday submitted 9,999 signatures for registration in the Central Election Commission for participation in the October 27 early parliamentary elections. Georg Georgiev MP of GERB-UDF told journalists that they are entering "with the huge responsibility and the consciousness of a party that is monolithic, strong, the only one that is capable of being a mandate bearer and around which to form a majority capable of electing a government".
In the MP's words, the time when "the country could be governed by experiments is gone". The GERB-UDF representatives consider that previous elections were preventable if political responsibility had prevailed.
GERB Deputy Chair Tomislav Donchev said he sees the upcoming elections as "the last chance to preserve democracy in Bulgaria" because if the next National Assembly fails to elect a regular government, “the voices in society which put into question the functioning of representative democracy in Bulgaria will become too loud”.
According to Donchev, the idea of changing the electoral system is rather a provocation for a public debate and a search for mechanism that will bring stability. In the MP’s words, the problem is not in the electoral system, but in the parties, which should stop focusing on the conflicts inside the parties themselves and with other parties.
“We need to put politics back where it belongs: argument, debate, agreement, disagreement, what to do in each of the public life spheres. We will try to have this conversation during this campaign”, Donchev said.
