The winners of the first annual ArtAction Awards for Art with a Cause were announced at a ceremony at the Heat Plant art centre in Sofia on Thursday evening. The awards aim to promote the achievements of artists and public figures whose visionary work improves all aspects of the environment in which Bulgarians live. The organizers describe it as "a curtain call to the independent spirit and free thought; an call for equality and protection of human dignity through the medium of art".
