Interior Minister Bakalov: "Candidate MPs Trying to Buy Preferential Vote"

Sofia, September 14 (BTA) - "Candidates for Parliament who are
ranked farther back on the lists are trying to buy votes so as
to secure voters preferences," Bulgarian Interior Minister
Yordan Bakalov said here on Sunday.

The candidates allegedly spend their own money on these
attempts.

"These are new schemes which the Interior Ministry is
investigating," Bakakov said. "Alerts about vote buying are
quite numerous, too. The buying itself is done by people are who
being recruited now. The Interior Ministry will be watching
some 1,000 people as a potential vote broker risk. A large part
of them have a criminal record," the Minister added. "Collecting
sufficient evidence for a conviction remains a challenge,
though," he added. SN/LG
